Pakistan Completes Its First National Digital Pilot Census

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has been instructed to prepare a proposal following the completion of Pakistan’s first digital pilot census. A summary of the data will be sent to the Council of Common Interest and Election Commission of Pakistan ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Chief Statistician PBS and the Director General NADRA have been directed by the government to increase the number of people registered with Pakistan’s National Database and Electronic Records System (NADRA) from 10,000 to 15,000. These directives were given by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal.

The Chief Statistician informed Minister Iqbal that the digital pilot census has been successfully completed. Pakistan will receive the first consignment of equipment to be utilized for the census from China on 20 August. Following this, the concerned staff will receive training for conducting the census, he added.

He also called for a new voter list to be prepared by 1 July 2023 to facilitate the ECP in organizing elections.
